List #13: Insights from Clive in Book 2 of the Chronicles of Narnia

I just finished reading Prince Caspian by C.S. Lewis to get psyched for the movie coming up May 16th. Some of these won’t be as meaningful out of context (so read the book) but nonetheless, here is a list of my favorite quotes/passages:

1. (This is so beautiful…ugh!) from page 136:

The great beast rolled over on his side so that Lucy fell, half sitting and half lying between his front paws. He bent forward and just touched her nose with his tongue. His warm breathe came all around her. She gazed up into the large wise face.

“Welcome, child,” he said.
“Aslan,” said Lucy, “you’re bigger.”
“That is because you are older, little one,” answered he.
“Not because you are?”
“I am not. But every year you grow, you will find me bigger.”

2. from page 143:

So at last they got on the move. Lucy went first, biting her lip and trying not to say all of the things she thought of saying to Susan. But she forgot them when she fixed her eyes on Aslan.

3. from page 144:

He led them to the right of the dancing trees—whether they were still dancing noboby knew, for Lucy had her eyes fixed on the Lion and the rest had their eyes fixed on Lucy…

4. from page 147:

[Susan speaking, after losing her faith in Aslan.] “And what ever am I to say to him?”
“Perhaps you won’t need to say much,” suggested Lucy.

5. from page 148:

Then, after an awful pause, the deep voice said, “Susan.” Susan made no answer but the others thought she was crying. “You have listened to fears, child,” said Aslan. “Come let me breathe on you. Forget them. Are you brave again?”
